Nickel Creek
In college I found Nickel Creek, I listened to their music all the time, then I forgot about them, that is until last night, I was watching The Kennedy Center Honors and saw a familiar face during the tribute to Yo-Yo Ma, it was Chris Thile, the mandolin player from Nickel Creek, apparently he had recorded a bluegrass with Ma.
I remember going to a Nickel Creek concert in Portland and how amazing the group was live, and how I wished I had practiced the Viola more so I could be as amazing of a musician as they were. I remember vividly that they did a cover of Britney Spears’s song Toxic. It was one of the most amazing covers of any song I have heard. So bluegrass may not be the hippest of music, but Nickel Creek was amazing.
If you’ve never heard them, go look them up and buy This Side, their second album, which is pretty amazing. I am now listening to them on Spotify. Ah memories.

Just found out that Thile is also planning on recording an album with Hilary Hahn. Well that’s enough weird music dorkery for a while. Thanks for indulging me.
